Mark’s Professional Background and Responsibilities Vera Mark, Director of Talent Practices at Beyond Gravity
With 6 years of experience in Talent Practices, Processes and HR Transformations, I've worked with IHG, adidas and Accenture, and also gained start-up experience. As Director of Talent Practices at Beyond Gravity, I focus on implementing best practice HR processes globally, designing leadership development programs, and promoting Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. My role involves shaping a diverse and inclusive culture and moving our HR practices forward towards best practices.
Challenges of Talent Acquisition and Retention
In my opinion, one of the most pressing challenges is the involvement of AI and robotics in our workforce and how it will change the ways of working we know today. Combined with new generations in our workforce, this AI revolution threatens not only ways of working but how we attribute money to time spent at work and distribute wealth through salaries. For talent acquisition, one of the most valuable future skills will be using AI effectively and working efficiently with it. This will shift the classic 8-hour workday, as more efficiency means less time needed for the same work. We need to ensure AI benefits everyone through new taxation systems and policies.
Regarding talent acquisition, we are moving towards skill-based work, requiring an understanding of organizational and industry skills to make informed decisions about acquiring and developing talent. As organizations and society, we must create upskilling programs to prevent job displacement by AI and robotics.
Effects of Economic and Technological Fluctuations on Strategies
It is true that economic and technological fluctuations can significantly impact HR strategies. For instance, rapid advancements in technology require continuous adaptation and upskilling of the workforce, as mentioned above. Economic downturns may necessitate cost-cutting measures, including hiring freezes or layoffs, which can affect employee morale and retention. At Beyond Gravity, we address these challenges by staying agile and continuously updating our talent practices to align with technological advancements and economic conditions. This includes investing in employee development as well as adoption of new technologies that are AI based, to ensure our workforce remains competitive and resilient.
“For talent acquisition, one of the most valuable future skills will be using AI effectively and working efficiently with it.”
Talent Management Trends Reshaping Organizational Workforce Engagement
Several significant trends are reshaping how organizations engage with their workforce, including remote and hybrid work models, the increasing importance of employee well-being and mental health and the growing emphasis on DEIB. These trends guide us to create flexible work arrangements and hybrid solutions. While many companies have taken steps in 2024 to bring people back to offices, designing welcoming spaces and sometimes implementing back-to-office policies, flexibility remains crucial. Prioritizing well-being is essential, especially with a 6-generation workforce. We must cater to diverse preferences to retain valuable knowledge from older generations and foster innovation from younger ones.
Future of Talent Management with Emerging Trends
Over the next five to ten years, I envision the full integration of AI and automation in HR processes across industries. While there is still a long way to go due to data quality and algorithm bias, AI will greatly assist in administrative and first-level support tasks. Another trend is a greater focus on personalized employee experiences and continuous learning. With AI implementation, quick adoption of new technologies is crucial to stay competitive. Additionally, there will be an increased emphasis on sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Organizations that adapt to these trends and create a supportive, inclusive and forward-thinking environment will be better positioned to attract and retain top talent.
